Introducing Soul Restruct

Hello, Teffi here! We're excited to reveal and talk more about our upcoming visual novel project, Soul Restruct.

Whereas Incompatible Species (our previous project) was moreso about found family coming to terms with extraordinary situations and how to move through them together despite the group's differences, Soul Restruct cuts to the desire for queer people to actually live, and how unfortunate it is that it must be fought for... but it must. There's an endless array of possibility the status quo chooses to at best ignore, and at worst stamp down upon. What's more, it's about how easy it is to turn away from the suffering of others like you when you're "one of the good ones" catered prim and proper to the status quo's whims.

As with Incompatible Species before it, Soul Restruct is a labor of love and an ode toward the types of stories I enjoy. In particular, I've long wanted to do a story that pays great homage to the likes of BIONICLE. While that is not the only inspiration driving Soul Restruct, it was perhaps the biggest contributor towards the earliest concept phases.

In no small part was the lineless artstyle something I wanted to hearken back to the look of the Mata Nui Online Game, and I'd say the lead artist, Frances, excels at hitting that vibe!

Grey being dubbed the New Six's "Chronicler" is certainly an on-the-nose nod to Takua, but her trajectory as a character will prove quite different from the one who eventually would become the Toa of Light.

Oftentimes my strategy for writing stories is to let a bunch of concepts I throw in simmer in a pot, then let my characters and story discover themselves as I write out a first draft. Then, plenty of refinement. Compared to Incompatible Species, I feel so much stronger about the first draft I got together for Soul Restruct! And cool ideas have kept coming naturally! Needless to say, I'm much more revved up this time, but make no mistake that I still feel for our prior visual novel.

As development progresses, we'd love to talk more thought processes behind what Soul Restruct is, as well as share previews of art, music, and scenes! It's been really exciting, how far things have come, but not nearly as promising as what the future holds for this story.

So take what's left unused, made into something new.
